Adut Aketch is a South Sudanese model who has been dominating the Autumn runway. She first started her international modeling career under Yves Saint Laurent’s fashion house. The model debuted on the European runway during last year’s spring/summer fashion show.
Aketch was born in a refugee camp in Kenya. At six years old, she migrated to Australia where she began walking on catwalks at 12 years old. Her aunt was the owner of a boutique and asked Aketch to model for her in a small-scale fashion show. However, after the fashion show, her modeling career started taking off including a long list of catwalks, campaigns, and a British Vogue magazine editorial.
Every year, there’s always a particular model who’s going to dominate a certain season. This year, it was Aketch’s turn to rule the autumn/winter runway. She already walked the catwalk for Bottega Veneta, Calvin Klein, and Tom Ford in the New York. Meanwhile, in London, she also showed up on the runway of Burberry, JW Anderson, and Simone Rocha.
In Milan, her portfolio includes Prada, Versace, and Fendi. However, in her Paris show, she went full circle to Yves Saint Lauren. Her bookings certainly doesn’t end here.
Aketch has certainly gone a long way from sharing her apartment with a roommate in Australia. She was formerly known as Mary because people found it hard to pronounce her name. However, after signing a contract with an international agency, she decided to use her original name and went back to being called Adut.
The 18-year-old model is a practical and lively teenager who views her work in a serious manner. She is definitely a unique model because literally, no one else looks like her. Her idols are Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek. Aketch considers Campbell as her second mom.
When she met the legendary model in an event last year, she never imagined a friendship would blossom between them. After they exchanged numbers, Campbell would check up on her from time to time.
According to Aketch, she is very much looking forward to a new chapter in her life. She never imagined that at 18 years old, she’d be renting her very own apartment in a different country. The Sudanese model is thrilled at the idea that she is now a grown woman.
