Gary Starr, the longest serving mayor in the state of Ohio, will now face an investigation.

There are new developments in the ongoing saga between the mayor of Middleburg Heights and city council.

Gary Starr, the longest serving mayor in the state of Ohio, will now face an investigation.

Late last month, Starr vetoed a council proposal to hire a special counsel to investigate city spending and probe the details of lawsuits filed by former employees against him.

On Tuesday night, council voted to override that veto, meaning an investigation can get underway.

The controversy comes alongside a series of reports that WKYC has aired on activities going on in Middleburg Heights, including Starr’s son Peter being connected with an armored car theft. Police tried to question Peter Starr, who refused to cooperate and was eventually cleared of wrongdoing.

There has also been controversy over Mayor Starr’s hiring of a safety director who lives in North Carolina.

Council President Matthew Castelli says he’s “concerned there is this much resistance to our trying to be informed.”
