JORDAN PEELE, NYONG’O AND WINSTON DUKE US MOVIE
After the surprising success of the movie Get Out, Oscar winner Jordan Peele has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after filmmakers. Get Out is just the beginning of his movement. He’s about to start the production of his next feature film Us, where he will both write and direct the movie.
In addition, he also has a number of series on different networks and platforms. Peele also signed a deal with Amazon Studios along with an animated film and a partnership with Spike Lee. He has become one of the busiest men in the entertainment industry now with several projects in stow.
Although the audience still doesn’t have a clear picture of what Us will be about, we do know that it is a social thriller. Peele is building his movies around the path of social consciousness and entertainment. His Monkeypaw Prods. is clearly showing its DNA which was very much evident in Get Out.
Peele explains how important it is for him to provide an escape for the audience. However, it is also significant for him to be able to show and incorporate what is going on with the world. His style is something new for the entertainment industry.
In Get Out, the audience was able to witness how certain communities view and regard African Americans. The timing of the film came out just after the controversies on how African American are treated violently in the U.S. as well as president Trump’s rise to racism.
Peele says that there has been a lack of imagination in the entertainment industry which allows him to create new ways to tell stories. His projects bring inclusivity and diversity to the table which makes him a great investment. He can take on the task of creating more representations for people of color, women, LGBTQ communities, and persons with disabilities. Peele believes in the concept of entertaining first before injecting a lesson.
His latest project, BlacKkKlansman, Peele’s Monkeypaw Prods. was on board as one of the production companies. The real-life story is directed by Spike Lee and tells the story of Ron Stallworth, an African American detective who was able to infiltrate the KKK by being an undercover. However, Peele takes little credit for the film apart from connecting Lee to the movie.
Currently, he is working on a number of television projects for HBO, Amazon Studios, CBS, TBS, and YouTube.
