Looks like Christmas came early for Mariah Carey’s fans a.k.a the lambily.
The Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter opened up like never before in Cosmopolitan’s‘ August 2019 cover story.
In the interview, Carey spoke candidly about how much she’s been through in her 25-year career in the music business, but one tidbit that had us leaning in closer is when she spoke about the younger men she’s dated.
The 49-year-old icon is currently with her former backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, 36. She introduced him in her E! docu-series Mariah’s World. The two have been seeing each other (on and off) for about two years.
“I haven’t had that many, but there has been a variety pack. I’ve only been with five people in my life, so I’m kind of a prude, honestly, compared to most others in the field,” she says.
Before Carey started dating Tanaka, she was engaged to Australian billionaire James Packer. The two split in October 2016 and Carey reportedly sold the $10 million 35-carat diamond-and-platinum engagement ring he gave her.
Prior to her relationship with Packer, Carey was married to Wild ‘n Out host Nick Cannon. She was also married to music executive Tommy Mottola from 1993-1997 and was in a three-year relationship with Mexican singer Luis Miguel from 1998-2001. Carey and Cannon share custody of their kids, 8-year-old fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Another thing Carey made clear to Cosmo is that she doesn’t do birthdays.
“I don’t have birthdays,” she simply responded when asked what was the best present she’s ever gotten.
As Carey once said in a 2014 interview with Observer, “I don’t count years but I definitely rebuke them—I have anniversaries, not birthdays because I celebrate life, darling.”
