Amid 23% Unemployment, Cleveland Virtual Job Fair Set For June 15-19!

An online virtual job fair will be held for Cleveland and Cuyahoga County June 15-19, with organizers saying “hundreds” of jobs will be available.

The virtual job fair will be one of the largest ever held by OhioMeansJobs Cleveland-Cuyahoga County.

“Employers in Northeast Ohio who need to fill well-paying jobs right now will be participating and hiring. While the Covid-19 pandemic forced the need for a virtual job fair, OhioMeansJobsǀCleveland-Cuyahoga County they realized they can host more employers and enable greater opportunities for job seekers online,” organizers said in a statement.

Some of the 75 companies expected to participate include: University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Amazon, Lowe’s, Ohio Savings Bank, Giant Eagle, FedEx Ground, The U.S. Census Bureau, Cedar Point and the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for the state of Ohio in April was 16.8%, up from only 4.1% in February. In the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area, the unemployment rate was even higher, hitting 23.1% in April, according to the bureau, up from 5.1% in February.

According to the bureau’s latest statistics, there are more than 232,000 unemployed people in the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area, up from 52,600 unemployed people in February.

OhioMeansJobs said it is Ohio’s free, online career counseling center that connects businesses to job seekers and provides career services to all Ohioans.
