Raymond Allen famously played Ned the Wino on ‘Good Times’

Raymond Allen, the retired actor known for roles on Good Times and Sanford and Son, has died at age 91.

According to Variety, his daughter Ta Ronce Allen confirmed her father passed of non-coronavirus respiratory complications on Monday.

 “Just wanted to let The Allen Family and friends know that Dad received his wing two hours ago,” she wrote on Facebook. “His warmth, kind heart and cleaver sayings will be missed. His laughter will ring in heaven. Rest In Heavenly Peace Raymond Allen. The last of 12 siblings.”

She continued in a second post, “What a day this is been. I am so surrounded by love from friends and family. This has been one of the hardest days of my life I lost my father Raymond Allen and my cousin Deborah Doll (his niece). They are now both being held by the wings of angels.”

According to Variety, Allen tested negative for the novel coronavirus back in May, however, he had been diagnosed with a bacterial infection. Since 2016, had been treated at a health care facility in California after battling pneumonia. He was found unresponsive at the center before being pronounced dead.

Allen is best known for roles on the classic Black sitcoms Good Times and Sanford and Son. On the former, he took the role of Ned the Wino, a neighbor of the Evans family with a not-so-secret alcohol addiction.

As Uncle Woody on Sanford and Son, he played the husband of actress and comedian LaWanda Page who starred as Aunt Esther. This role continued on a spinoff series, The Sanford Arms. Allen also worked on The Love Boat, The Jeffersons, What’s Happening!! and more as listed on his IMDb page.

Allen retired from acting in 1985. He is survived by his two daughters, Ta Ronce and Brenda Allen.
