During the early stages of her career, Tiffany Haddish didn’t get an opportunity to play a role in any of the Wayans movies, even though she auditioned several times and had a good relationship with the family.

This week, Haddish filled in for hosting duties on Ellen, and while speaking with guest Marlon Wayans, it came out that Wayans has known her since she was 16. Together with his brother Shawn, he met Haddish at a comedy camp she participated in during the ‘90s, and according to him, she was “loud even as a little kid.”

While the camp would later begin a friendship with the Wayans family, Haddish couldn’t still get a role in their movies. And when she got the chance, she decided to ask why that happened.

“I know we friends, and I know you love me. I love you,” Haddish said. “You have helped me in so many different aspects in life, gave me some great advice. But this what I want to know. I have auditioned for so many of your movies, your family. Why do I never get cast? You even made a role, ‘Tiffany Haddish type,’ I auditioned for myself! I auditioned to play me!”

Before getting serious for a moment, Marlon joked that Haddish wasn’t right for the part.

“But you was always on 10. Sometimes you’d just be like inappropriate. It’s like a love scene and you want to sit on the actor’s lap and fart. And it’s like, ‘Tiffany, it’s not for this scene!’” Marlon said.

Haddish struggled as she tried to start her career, and it would have been kind of them to offer her an opportunity. Or maybe, they would have helped her to grow to fit the roles. Even better, hire her for roles that match her personality. But that didn’t happen.

Nevertheless, Haddish has been able to do so much for herself, and that’s what matters most.
