Almost everyone who enjoys classic R&B is a fan of the renowned Freddie Jackson. Many of us, the “Old Schoolers,” still jam to Freddy’s classics like “Jam Tonight,” “You Are My Lady,” and “Rock Me Tonight.”

Freddie’s name will forever be associated with authentically soulful, classic R&B.

On the other hand, his name has long been associated with stories about his personal life, including his sexuality, health, and so on. However, those suspicions blew up in recent years as Freddie disappeared from the public eye for a while, only to reappear, looking like half of the Freddie we all knew.

Many of his supporters were concerned about his health because he’d lost a lot of weight. At the same time, the gay, HIV/AIDS, and cancer rumors about Freddie went from zero to a thousand in a matter of minutes.

In an interview with WBLS, Freddie addressed the numerous reports regarding his health to end the speculation. In a nutshell, Freddie stated that there was nothing wrong with his health.

According to Freddie, the answer to why he lost so much weight is quite straightforward. After receiving a weight-related health scare from his doctor a few years ago, he confessed that helost 107 pounds out of fear for his health. He also stated that as he grew older, he understood that he could no longer control that, but that he could control his health. He claims that’s when he began making better dietary choices and leading a much healthier lifestyle, allowing him to lose weight and keep it off.

“I couldn’t do anything about getting older. We’re gonna get older by the grace of God. You’ve got to lose 50 pounds.  I grabbed the bulls by the horn and took control of my life,” he said.

“So, ILOSM fam, there you have it… I am nether sick nor dying,” Freddie stated. He opened up about his sexuality in an episode of Unsung. He didn’t confirm or deny if he’s gay, but he did say that it’s none of anyone’s damn business (though just not in those exact words).
