The latest edition of TV One’s Uncensored, a documentary series centred on celebrities’ behind-the-scenes experiences, featured R&B artist Keyshia Cole. The superstar singer discusses her old friendship with rapper, actor, and TV personality Eve during the May 6 program. She shares an uncensored account of the actions that led to the breakup of her relationship.

Cole begins by discussing her background in Oakland, California, and how what she saw and was exposed to influenced how she dealt with conflict.

“When I came straight from Oakland, it was still in me. The disrespect, things that would happen, how we handle it from the ‘hood. It was like, we just fight,” she explained. “It took a long time to learn to not put my hands on people; you know what I’m saying?”

The four-time Grammy nominee went on to say that it was placing her hands on someone who was disrespectful to Eve that caused their friendship to end.

“There was a thing that happened with Eve,” the singer explains. As they were leaving, someone grabbed Eve’s bag or something similar, and Cole turned around and whacked the girl. “Girl, what is you doing? Back up.’”

“Eve is really pissed off about that,” Cole added. “Like we stopped hanging out. She was like, ‘I can’t hang with Keyshia. She can’t be slapping people.’”

Cole’s actions may have been seen as a gesture of love and loyalty by others, but Eve didn’t view it that way. Cole couldn’t comprehend why Eve reacted that way at the time.https://d430038a65e1939d5d90276f25f3b69b.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

“I was like, ‘I slapped somebody for you, what the f–k is this?’’’ she said. But it also taught her a lot later since, as she is now, she can be sued as well. As a member of her team, she should’ve just left it to security. Someone is actually paid to do that job.

Even if it meant losing a friend, we’re delighted Cole was able to reflect and develop from that experience. For those who remember, the two collaborated on the song “Never” from Cole’s debut album, The Way It Is, released in 2005.
