The Let’s Make a Deal host found himself in a physical confrontation on California’s treacherous Pacific Coast Highway.
Wayne Brady’s holiday weekend got off to a rough start on Sunday. According to TMZ, the entertainer was involved in a car accident that escalated into a physical fight. The outlet’s law enforcement sources say the Let’s Make a Deal host “was driving down Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Sunday night when another car hit him.”
When the two drivers pulled over, “an intense argument [escalated] into a physical altercation.” After the fight, Brady called 911, while the other driver, a 51-year-old man, drove away. He was later found by Sheriff deputies, who arrested him for “battery, DUI and hit-and-run.”
For those of you not from Southern California, Pacific Coast Highway—known locally as PCH—is the highway that runs along California’s coastline, providing stunning views in some stretches. However, it’s also an extremely precarious road that is the site of multiple accidents a month. In Malibu, PCH can be rough to navigate under the best conditions. It’s especially unsafe when a driver is under the influence.
The good news is that Wayne seems to be OK and didn’t need to go to the hospital. TMZ’s sources say the Whose Line Is It Anyway? star is “banged up and sore the day after the incident, and will be taking it easy for the time being.” This is great news for his fans, as Brady is a dynamic talent who is the real definition of a triple threat. He acts, sings and does comedy, all while maintaining a reputation as a genuinely nice guy.
Up next Wayne will return to musical theater as The Wiz in the upcoming revival of the classic. The singer/comedian is known for his improvisation skills, so it will be fascinating to see how he makes this role his own and brings something new to each performance. He’s previously appeared in Rent, Hamilton and Kinky Boots.
