Dr. Dre’s estranged wife allegedly wants more than his name and intellectual property alongside his hard-earned money. Nicole Young reportedly filed a lawsuit on September 18 against his husband, André Young, claiming that she co-owns the trademark to his name and classic hip-hop album, The Chronic.
Based on the lawsuit, Nicole says that on April 2, 2020, Dr. Dre forced her to leave their Los Angeles-area home. And after the separation, Dr. Dre allegedly transferred trademarks to another holding company.
“After Andre forced Nicole out of their family home on or about April 2, 2020, he quickly plotted to secretly transfer their assets, to deny Nicole her equal share,” the lawsuit reads.
The trademarks were allegedly filed when Dr. Dre and Nicole got married.
“These valuable trademarks were filed during Andre’s years married to Nicole, which coincided with Andre’s years of rising success in the music industry,” Nicole claims in the lawsuit.
“The trademarks are presumed to be community property pursuant to California Family Code Section 760. Because they were married, Nicole and Andre owned the Trademarks jointly, from the date of their first filing in 1997, and through 2013, by virtue of being community property owners,” the lawsuit states further.
And Nicole isn’t just after the trademark for Dr. Dre’s name and classic album. It’s reported that she’s also asking for spousal support worth $2 million per month. Her monthly expenses include, $135,000 per for clothes, $20,000 cell phone bill, $10,000 for laundry, $125,000 for charity, and $60,000 for education, TMZ reports.
Nicole also wants her ex-husband to cover her attorney fee which is about $5 million. According to Forbes, Dr. Dre is currently worth $800 million. Dr. Dre’s wife claims that she earned much of this sum during their marriage, and has the right to get a share.
In June, Nicole Young filed for divorce after 24 years in marriage.
