Golden Globe-winner Taraji P. Henson spoke to Mary J. Blige in an all-new episode of Peace of Mind with Taraji, airing every Monday on Facebook Watch. She shares about dealing with mental health as a single woman during the holidays.

Blige opened up about spending the holidays as a single woman, and about her divorce from Marc Isaacs. In 2016, Blige underwent two years of emotionally taxing divorce period, which also played out in public. Ex-husband Isaacs attempted to gain financial support from the 9-time Grammy-winner in several ways. He went as far as claiming to have been hospitalized due to stress from their breakup.

In 2018, Blige was ordered to pay temporary spousal support of $30,000 to Isaacs. Oddly, this came out as a win for the 49-year-old actress and singer, considering that Isaacs demanded $129, 319 per month.

At the time she said, “I’m living. I’m not happy about a lot of things. I thought someone loved me, right? Turns out, he was a con artist and he didn’t, and now he’s coming after me for all my money.”

During her Monday interview with Henson, Blige opened up about how hard it was to spend the holidays as a single woman.

She said, “It gets lonely and it gets sad, but you know hey, I just gotta thug this out until something excellent comes along, which I don’t know when that’s gonna happen. I’d rather be by myself than to keep making the same mistakes over and over again, so I’m gonna be patient and sift through this thing and love on me right now. But I’m not gonna deprive myself of living either you know, I’m not gonna deprive myself of romance if ever it shows up.”

On mental health, Blige emphasized the need to talk to someone about what you’re going through. She also said he had mental health issues since childhood, inspiring her 1993 album, “My Life” and others. She explained that some of her songs at the time were a cry of help, stating that, “People responded. So that was my answer right there that OK, I have to speak.”
