Just under 24 hours after Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival concluded with eight lives lost and hundreds injured, Katt Williams became the first entertainer to mention the tragedy in the context of his own performance.
In the aftermath of the horrific Astroworld Festival incident, people are already reassuring fans and audience members in general that their shows are safe, with Williams leading by example after a fan at his show apparently passed out.
According to reports, as Williams was performing at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, a fan passed out. As a result, someone cried, “Stop the show!” causing Katt Williams to pause and address the audience while waiting for medics to arrive and assist the audience member. The interruption lasted about 10 minutes. Williams had stated that he wouldn’t continue with his performance until the fan was attended to.
“I’m sorry if I won’t move on but that Astroworld s**t I mean we can’t never continue till we know somebody motherf**king good … I’m not goin’ to be leaving with that on my conscious … just take five minutes … thank you, sir … I hope she’s just having a baby. That’s all,” Williams explained why he stopped.
“We made the right decision. Alright, come back from a commercial break,” Williams remarked after the man was removed from the event.
According to authorities, Astroworld, which was supposed to take place on Friday and Saturday, was cut short about 30 minutes early on Day 1 due to a “mass casualty incident.” Several others took to social media within hours to describe a chaotic scene in which fans frantically sought assistance from security and medical personnel as many people collapsed.
The Daily Beast noted that Scott’s headlining performance didn’t stop until 40 minutes after the Houston Police Department notified organizers of the emergency situation developing in the crowd. Despite only selling 50,000 tickets, the event is now expected to attract around 200,000 people.
After roughly 10 minutes, Williams resumed his concert, remaining on stage and talking with the audience while first responders attended to the collapsed man.
The man’s condition remains undisclosed.
