New Biopic On Regina King’s Transformation As The First Black Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm!

The similarities between Regina King’s portrayal of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress, and Shirley Chisholm has been shown in new images. In the first look photos, King is donning Chisholm’s iconic updo and glasses, giving admirers hope that the actress may win another Oscar.
Shirley, a forthcoming Netflix biopic of the unbought and unbossed trailblazing politician, is now filming in King’s birthplace of Cincinnati, Ohio.
This is the first time King has been seen since her only son, Ian Alexander, Jr., died unexpectedly at the end of January.
“First look at Academy Award winner Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, in ‘Shirley,’ which chronicles Chisholm’s historic journey as the first African American woman in Congress and the first woman and African American to seek the 1972 nomination for President of the United States,” tweeted Erik Anderson.
Last February, Participant, a leading media firm dedicated to bringing inspirational stories to the masses with the goal of inspiring viewers to take positive social action, announced that it will create the feature film.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker John Ridley will write and direct the biopic, which will be produced by King and her Royal Ties Productions, with Jeff Skoll and Anikah McLaren serving as executive producers.
“Shirley Chisholm’s fearless determination has been an inspiration to so many of us, and with this film we hope to inspire many generations to come,” stated King in a written statement. “To collaborate once again with my friend and mentor, John Ridley, and the team at Participant, makes this decade-long journey even sweeter.”
Shirley will recount the 1972 presidential campaign of the Brooklyn congresswoman, who made history as the first woman and the first Black woman to run for president of the United States.
Terrance Howard, who will play Chisholm’s spouse, private investigator Conrad Chisholm, will co-star alongside King. “Regina’s passion for bringing a complete and very human portrait of Shirley to life has been evident since literally the day we first met. I’m very thankful to both Regina and
Netflix’s Shirley is currently in production in Cincinnati, US. Filming started there in December 2021 and according to director John Ridley, will continue there through March 2022 before heading to Los Angeles and then finishing the production in New York.
