Cuyahoga County will directly receive $239.5 million from the American Rescue Plan.
Nearly $240 million will be directed to Cuyahoga County through the American Rescue Plan, Rep. Marcy Kaptur announced Wednesday.
The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan is a comprehensive COVID-19 response package that has passed through the U.S. House and Senate along party lines. The legislation will direct funding specifically to localities once it is signed by President Joe Biden. It will also send direct payments to Americans to stimulate the economy.
Via the American Rescue Plan, Cuyahoga County will receive $239.5 million in emergency funding.
Notably, the American Rescue Plan will also provide $1,400 stimulus payments to Americans, including Cuyahoga County residents, and includes funding for vaccine distribution. The legislation also increases the child tax credit from $2,000 to $3,000 and increases unemployment benefits from $300 per week to $400 per week.
“The American Rescue Plan will provide vitally needed support for Northern Ohio families, communities, essential workers, and small businesses,” Kaptur said. “I fought for the inclusion of direct support to Northern Ohio cities and municipalities like Cuyahoga County.”
The American Rescue Plan also funds the formation of a national vaccination program, setting up community vaccination sites nationwide. The federal government is funding the upcoming mass vaccination clinic at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.
The legislation also increases testing and tracing, shortages of personal protective equipment and other supplies.
