DANCECleveland, Cleveland’s nonprofit presenter of contemporary & modern dance, has named Sarah Sumbrum its new artistic director.
In this newly created position Sumbrum, who has been with DANCECleveland for more than a decade, including as marketing director and associate artistic director, will oversee the organization’s programming schedule. She takes over from artistic/executive director Pam Young who is retiring.
“Having delayed my retirement to continue to lead DANCECleveland through the pressures of COVID, allowed the Board and Search Committee to reimagine the leadership structure for the organization,” says Young. “Moving forward, the Executive and Artistic responsibilities will be separate, allowing the new executive director to direct strategic initiatives and growth for the 65-year old stalwart organization while Sumbrum will focus more specifically on the artistic vision. What is most exciting is that Sarah joined DANCECleveland right out of college in an entry-level position to grow and develop as a nonprofit arts leader.”
In addition to working in various capacities at DANCECleveland, Sumbrum has also been a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. Go here for more information on her background.
