Jacqueline Avant, the wife of American media magnate and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Clarence Avant, was murdered in a home invasion on Wednesday (December 1), according to TMZ. She was 81 years old when she died.

While many details of this tragedy are still unclear, according to TMZ, it happened in the early morning hours at the couple’s mansion in Trousdale Estates, a posh Beverly Hills area. According to the tabloid, law enforcement got a call at 2:30 a.m. telling them of the gunshot. However, Jacqueline had already been transferred to a local hospital by the time they arrived.

An insider familiar with the family also told TMZ that the shooting happened during a house robbery, during which Clarence is claimed to have been present. There has been no news on whether he was injured or not, nor has there been any information on the present situation.

Clarence, often known as “The Black Godfather,” has recently received increased media interest. In 2019, he was the subject of The Black Godfather, a Netflix documentary that looked at parts of his life, showing how he rose to prominence as a Black cultural leader, promoting concerts, producing content, raising money for politicians, and amassing a very influential roster of supporters (including Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Jesse Jackson, Quincy Jones, Al Sharpton, Oprah Winfrey, David Geffen and more).

Nicole Avant, the former US ambassador to the Bahamas and current wife of Netflix co-chief executive officer Ted Sarandos, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Avant. Jacqueline Avant was active in local politics in the mid-1970s. She served as the chairwoman of Neighbors of Watts, an organization that supported the South Central Community Child Care Center.

She was also a member of the International Student Center’s board of directors at UCLA.

As per a report released by the LA Times late last month, there has been an uptick in home California invasions, as well as other property crimes. These crimes have taken place inside some of the state’s wealthier communities in its southern region.

“The [LAPD] is already investigating at least 133 such robberies from areas including the Sunset Strip, Melrose Avenue, the Jewelry District, and Westside shopping areas,” the report reads.
