MXO ‘The Arts Unplugged:” From School Days To Blueberry Hill: Chuck Berry In St Louis!

RockHall.com, Posted April 29th 2023

Perhaps no one had more influence on the formation and development of rock and roll than St. Louis native Chuck Berry. He drew from country, blues, and R&B influences to create a singular guitar technique, sound, style, and sensibility that served as the blueprint for the generations of artists that followed. With original compositions including “Maybellene,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and “Johnny B. Goode,” Berry’s catalog constitutes one of the richest American songbooks of the 20th century. In 1986, Berry was the first person ever inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and during his later years he retired to his hometown of St. Louis, playing over 200 shows at the renowned music club Blueberry Hill until 2014. This exhibit will explore Chuck Berry’s legacy and his time in St. Louis, from his early years to his final years.
