During an interview with “CBS Mornings,” the esteemed rapper talked about his oldest daughter.

Jay-Z is usually reserved when talking to press, but in an interview with Gayle King for “CBS Mornings” the emcee opened up about being a dad. In addition to talking about Blue Ivy performing alongside her mom Beyonce on the Renaissance Tour, Jay also discussed the origin of her name.

Surprisingly, Blue Ivy wasn’t her original name at first. “It was supposed to be Brooklyn,” Jay explained to King. However, the rapper’s hometown took a backseat once the couple’s prenatal checks started.

“We was calling her Blueberry. Like, ‘Look at the little blueberry.’ You know, it was like a nickname,” he continued. “It just was natural. We just took the ‘berry’ off of it and called her Blue.”

Jay-Z also gushed over his wife’s popular tour that just wrapped up. “For me, this was her best tour. This one to me felt like the most complete.”

He also shared with King that he got “goosebumps” watching Blue Ivy onstage with Bey.

“Blue’s been born into this world that she didn’t ask. She’s been born into a life she didn’t ask for. So since she was born she’s been in, like, scrutiny and public eye, and everyone having an opinion,” Jay stated.

“She wanted to do it. She wanted to do it the first night, and we was like, ‘OK, if this is something you wanna do, you can’t just go out there. You gotta go work with the dancers, and go work. And she worked every day and watched her work hard.”

Blue performed to the song “My Power,” to which the emcee stated: “You can’t write a better script.”

For “CBS Mornings,” King and Carter spoke and also toured the “Book of HOV” exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library. He also revealed that Blue has gone back and forth about him being a cool dad.
